Rosa Parks was best known for the woman arrested because she refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. A woman who had no idea she was changing history when work and a weary heart would cause such a chain reaction. A woman who is now immortalized for the defiance that sent her to jail and triggered a bus boycott.
Born in 1797 and the last of 9 children to be sold like cattle into slavery at an open auction. Sojourner was an abolitionist, and powerful speaker across the country. She sang, preached and debated at camp. Truth fled from bondage some thirty years later. She mesmerized her audiences with her tales of life in bondage and moving renditions of hymns and her own songs. She was best known for her quote, “Ain’t I a Woman. "
HARRIET TUBMAN
Born a slave, Harriet Tubman dreamed of freedom. Through hard work and her willingness to risk everything – including her life – she was able to make her dream come true. But after making her escape, Harriet realized that her own freedom was not enough. So she became a conductor on the Underground Railroad. She devoted her life to helping others make the journey out of bondage. Harriet was best known for her famous quote: "I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger."
